An exchange of gunfire as officers attempted to execute both an arrest and a search and seizure warrant at Duke’s Motel in Rosedale resulted in the suspect suffering a gunshot wound. The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting in Windsor Mill early on July 7 and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Early Morning Shooting in Windsor Mill
Officers responded to the 1700 block of Winding Brook Way in western Baltimore County around 5 a.m. when the victim called 9-1-1 after being shot by her ex-boyfriend.
The suspect forced his way into the woman’s townhome, then became involved in a physical altercation with her, during which she was shot at least once in the lower body. The suspect fled the location in a vehicle following the shooting. The woman, 37, was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive her wounds.
Officer-Involved Shooting at Duke’s Motel
Detectives from the Baltimore County Police Violent Crimes Unit continued to follow leads throughout the morning and afternoon hours in an attempt to locate the suspect. Patrol officers throughout the county were made aware of the description of a vehicle the suspect may be driving. An astute officer from the White Marsh Precinct located the vehicle parked on the lot at Duke’s Motel in the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway in Rosedale.
The Tactical Operations Team was utilized to serve the warrants at a room believed to be occupied by the suspect from the Windsor Mill shooting. As the team began to breach the motel room there was an exchange of gunfire, during which the sole occupant of the room suffered a gunshot wound. He was immediately treated by medics staged nearby for the warrant execution but subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during the exchange.
At this hour detectives are continuing to work to positively identify the deceased suspect and make proper death notifications. A firearm was recovered from inside the motel room.
The Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Any officer identified as being involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Homicide Unit and Internal Affairs Unit, which will then be forwarded to the Office of the State’s Attorney for review.
