Campbell to Run for County Council in District 6

Republican Tony Campbell  announced that he is running for Baltimore County Council at a campaign event on April 9.

The Towson University professor will be running in District 6, which is an open seat after Democratic Councilwoman Cathy Bevins announced she was retiring after this year.

The new District 6 includes the areas Towson, Loch Raven Village, Hillendale, Parkville, Overlea and Rosedale. Campbell is a resident of Towson.

The Baltimore County Council has a 4 to 3 Democratic advantage, but that could change if Campbell is elected.

According to his website, Campbell served in the U.S. Army and as an Army Chaplain.

Campbell ran for U.S. Senate in 2018 against Senator Ben Cardin.

The Maryland Board of Elections reported that Campbell is the only Republican running in District 6.

The Democrats have four candidates running for Bevins’ old seat.

Mike Ertel, who is a resident of Towson, ran for County Council in 2010 in District 5.

Middle River resident Shafiyq Hinton, Caitlin Klimm-Kellner of Parkville and Preston R. Snedegar of Fullerton have also filed to run for District 6
