Baltimore County Fire Department reported an apartment fire in Dundalk on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Crews reported a fire in the 6900 block of Dunmanway around 3:25 p.m. The fire was reported on the first floor and people who trapped inside.
Fire was put out and people were rescued.
Perry Hall Resident Julie Henn Reelected Vice Chair
Makeda Scott, who was elected to the Board of Education of Baltimore County in 2018, was chosen Board chair at the group’s Dec. 8 meeting, becoming the first African American woman to lead the county’s school board. The Board also elected to retain Vice Chair Julie Henn in that role for another year.
“I am honored to be selected by my peers for this important role,” said Scott. “The events of the last year have reinforced how critical public education is and how essential it is that public school systems are led with vision and expertise. I look forward to working closely with my fellow Board members and Superintendent Williams to guide the system through this challenging period and to ensure its strength and flexibility for the future.”
Board members are tasked with electing new leadership annually during their first meeting in December. Scott was nominated for the post by Student Member of the Board Josh Muhumuza, a senior at Dundalk High School. In a social media post, Muhumuza referred to the nomination as “one of his proudest moments” as student member of the Board.
BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams congratulated both Scott and Henn for their leadership and service. “It has been my pleasure to work with Ms. Scott as a Board member and now as Board chair. She continually demonstrates her unwavering commitment to the children and families of Baltimore County,” he said. “Ms. Henn brings her experience as a Board officer and will continue to be a strong advocate for Baltimore County’s schools and students.”
An Owings Mills resident, Scott is a communications professional with more than 20 years of experience. She has worked for WSB-TV (Atlanta, Ga), the Enterprise Foundation, American Federation of State and County Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the British Embassy, U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes, and the Baltimore City Housing Authority.
Henn has served on the school board since being appointed by the governor in 2016. When the Board transitioned in 2018 to a hybrid (part-elected, part-appointed) assembly, Henn was elected to serve on the Board representing the county’s Fifth District.
Henn, a Perry Hall resident, is an enterprise information technology professional who has served in leadership roles with Baltimore City Community College, QM Quality Matters, Computer Generated Solutions, the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and Prometric.
Two suspects have been charged in the March 7 shooting death of a 13-year-old boy on the parking lot of Kenwood Shopping Center.
Rodrick ONeil Bell (20) and Jeremiah Corneal Bell (16), both of the 5000 block of Walther Avenue, 21214 were arrested at their home early Thursday morning, Dec. 3.
Both are facing charges of first degree murder and five counts of attempted first degree murder. Jeremiah Bell is charged as an adult in these crimes.
Detectives from the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit were able to determine that at 11:57 p.m., when a number of teens had exited ‘Triple Threat Elite’ dance studio, the suspects drove through the parking lot and began firing shots into the crowd, striking one adult and five juvenile victims, including Rickie Forehand (13) who died at the scene. Detectives are continuing to investigate to determine a motive for this shooting.
Both defendants remain held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on denied bail status. Anyone who may have additional information should contact police by calling 410-307-2020.
A multi-vehicle crash on Pulaski Highway in Rosedale killed an Edgemere man Sunday morning.
Just after 7 a.m. on Dec. 6, Baltimore County Police responded to Pulaski Highway at Rossville Boulevard in Rosedale for a multiple vehicle crash.
Police determined that the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder attempted to drive eastbound through the intersection between two vehicles stopped at a solid red light, striking the rear driver side of a Toyota Camry and side-swiping the passenger side of a Lexus, pushing the Lexus into a Nissan Altima, also stopped at the light.
The driver of the Toyota Camry, Charles Scott Himmelman (54) of the 2500 block of Maple Road in Edgemere was transported to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The drivers of the Pathfinder and Lexus suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The driver and a passenger of the Nissan Altima did not report any injuries.
The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is continuing their investigation into the circumstances and contributing factors of this fatal crash.
The Rosedale Volunteer Fire Company has started its tour with Santa on the Fire Truck in the Rosedale/Overlea community. The tour started last Monday and a schedule has been released until Saturday, Dec. 12. Rosedale VFC released the statement on its Facebook page last week about the event.
“To the Rosedale community, we are beginning to bring Santa around to the community, please pay careful attention to the posted routes on the maps for the streets we will be coming down. If we are not coming down your street we ask that you come to an intersection that we pass through if you would like to see Santa,” said the Rosedale VFC.
“Please take note of the time and effort that goes into bringing Santa to the community, while also selling Christmas trees. We are still providing emergency coverage to the community and will make our best effort to keep Santa traveling along his route.
Don’t be a Grinch we are doing the best we can.”

Baltimore County Police made a quick arrest of a suspect responsible for shooting a man on Dec. 5.
Just before 4 a.m. police responded to the 1000 block of Punjab Drive in Essex for a call of shots fired. Responding officers found the victim, an adult man, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Detectives from the Baltimore County Police Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives determined that the incident was domestic related and identified the suspect as Ivan Tianto Turner Jr (27) of the 1000 block of Punjab Drive, 21212.
Turner was located and arrested in the Essex area. He was charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault and firearm use. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on a no bail status pending a bail review hearing.
Baltimore County Police apprehended one suspect during an armed robbery in progress, and two other suspects after a brief foot-pursuit late Monday, Nov. 30.
Officers from the Parkville Precinct were in the right place at the right time Monday night, when they were dispatched to a call for a possible armed robbery in progress at the CVS Pharmacy in the 2900 block of East Joppa Road in Carney.
The store’s security company contacted police at 11:34 p.m. with information that multiple suspects were inside the store taking prescription medications and may have at least one gun.
Officers were already in the area conducting business checks during our holiday deployment and arrived on the scene minutes after the call was dispatched. Officers Lawrence and Laisure were the first to enter the CVS, encountering one of the suspects standing over two witnesses behind the front checkout counter.
That suspect, later identified as Taiquan Da’jon Fuqua (21) of the 3500 block of Branchcourt Road, 21234, was ordered to the ground. A loaded handgun was recovered on his person. Baltimore County Police have released body-worn camera video from Officer Lawrence that depicts the officers arriving at CVS and taking Fuqua into custody on our YouTube page.
A witness at the scene notified the officers that two additional suspects fled with prescription medications through the pharmacy window. Officers canvassing the area located and stopped the vehicle that the two suspects were passengers in just inside Baltimore City.
The two suspects attempted to flee on foot but were both apprehended after brief foot-pursuits. They are identified as David Roosevelt Fulgham III (22) of the 1100 block of North Bond Street, 21213 and Dylan Launclet Smith (21) of the 100 block of Peyton Road in York, Pennsylvania.
A loaded handgun was also recovered on Smith. Cash and prescription medications were recovered inside the vehicle.
Fuqua, Fulgham, and Smith are all charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, robbery, first degree assault, and theft. All three remain held on no bond status following bail review hearings.
A 75-year-old man has died of injuries sustained on Thursday in a Fullerton area house fire.
The victim is Michael Richard Praglowski. He was pronounced deceased at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
BCoFD units were dispatched at 11:08 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 to a dwelling fire in the 4500 block of Fitch Avenue.
OhCrews did not see fire from the exterior, but they found the victim in the second-floor bedroom, unconscious on the floor. There was a small, extinguished fire beside him.
BCoPD investigators found that the victim had been smoking while attached to medical oxygen. This is an accidental fire.
The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company reported a vehicle crash on I-95 northbound near the Joppa Road underpass in White Marsh.
The accident was reported around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
There was a report that one patient had a serious head injury as a result of going through the windshield.
It was reported that person was not wearing a seltbelt.
Baltimore County Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Edgemere that left one man deceased on Monday.
Just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, police responded to the intersection of North Point and Lodge Farm roads for a pedestrian involved crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a GMC Sonoma was traveling northbound on North Point Road when it struck the man as he was in a wheelchair attempting to cross in a marked crosswalk. The driver of the GMC did not stop and continued northbound on North Point Road.
Officers located the vehicle and placed the driver under arrest. The pedestrian, Joseph Stefan (69) of the 2800 block of Lodge Farm Road, 21219 was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver, Nicklos Koltko III (45) of the 100 block of McQuay Road, 21146, is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on no bail status following a bail review hearing.
He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, and other traffic-related charges.
The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is continuing their investigation.
