Olszewski Issues Statement on Concerns about White Marsh Mall Security

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski released the following statement in response to public conversations regarding recent public safety incidents at White Marsh Mall:
“Every person deserves to feel safe in their community. Chief Sheridan and I are actively discussing additional measures to engage residents and address concerns about crime. To that end, I will be talking with mall leadership and will ask them to develop a clear and specific policy on unsupervised youth. As we work to keep our communities safe, we will not point fingers but instead work in collaboration with our partners in the Baltimore region to address public safety concerns.”

Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Essex Saturday

Police continue to investigate a fatal crash on MD 702 in Essex that occurred just before 9 p.m. Saturday night.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Hyundai Tucson traveling westbound on MD 702 near the exit to I-695 failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, crossing the grass median and the eastbound travel lanes, then traveling down an embankment where it struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Shannon Michele Kraft (30) of the 3700 block of White Pine Road, 21220, was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she later died. An adult male passenger was also transported to an area hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation.

Welcome to EastBaltCo.com

As many of you know, I was a reporter for The East County Times and Dundalk Eagle. I am also the creator of the blog “Benstorming.” I’ve covered stories in eastern Baltimore County for the past decade.

With the closing of the East County Times Newspaper, there is a need for an independently owned newspaper.

Since I’m starting off small and slow, most of my material will be obtained from press releases submitted by the Baltimore County Office of Communication, the Baltimore County Police Department  Baltimore County Public Schools, CCBC and County Sportszone. I need help and will need submittions from the community about sporting events, town hall meetings and other events in the community.

EastBaltCo.com will start online, but could expand to a print edition if this website has success.
