The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) will temporarily hold traffic in both directions on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (US 50/301) and Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) during passage of marine vessels carrying four large cranes on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Traffic holds will be utilized for safety purposes to ensure that drivers are not distracted crossing these bridges during the cranes’ passage beneath the structures. Traffic holds are anticipated to last for approximately 15-30 minutes.
The vessels’ estimated time of passage will occur in the morning at the Bay Bridge and the afternoon at the Key Bridge. The exact times will not be determined until 24 hours before arrival, and will be communicated through additional public notifications on Wednesday, September 8.
At this time, passage under these bridges are not projected to impact morning or afternoon rush hour periods.
