COVID Vaccine Needed for BCPS Athletes

Beginning Wednesday, November 24, 2021, BCPS will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for any high school student participating in BCPS winter and spring sports for the 2021-22 school year.

Students who are unwilling to be vaccinated, or present documentation verifying a medical or religious exemption as to why they cannot be vaccinated, may participate in mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing.

Testing will be offered at no cost to the student athlete at their school on a regularly scheduled basis that is either during the school day or practice time. Tests involve a brief self-swab inside the tip of the nose and use PCR technology to detect the COVID virus.

If a student fails to get vaccinated or participate in the mandatory weekly COVID testing process, they will lose their eligibility and be unable to participate or until the requirements are met

Woman Wins $20K Scratch-Off in Dundalk

 -Article courtesy of mdlottery.com-

Twice is nice according to a Baltimore County woman. The Dundalk resident revealed two $10,000 amounts on her $1,000 Loaded scratch-off, winning one of the game’s second-tier $20,000 prizes.

The lucky lady told Lottery officials that an earlier win on the $1,000 Loaded ticket had made the game a favorite. So, when she visited a local convenience store last weekend, the $10 scratch-off was an easy choice. She bought two and scratched them when she returned home.

After scratching her winning numbers on the top of the ticket, she slowly revealed a $10,000 prize.

“I saw the first two numbers and got excited for a $10 win, but the number just kept going,” said the winner. “When I revealed the full $10,000 prize, I thought I must not be seeing this right,” she said.

She rushed through the house to share the excitement of the win, waking her sleeping spouse.

While showing the $10,000 prize to her spouse, she scratched off the remainder of the ticket. Luck struck again while doing so, revealing another $10,000 prize on her ticket.

“I just about had a heart attack,” she said.

The rest of the evening was a sleepless night of excitement. The lucky winner said she plans to use some of the prize to pay down debt, get some new wardrobe for her kids and help her family.

The $1,000 Loaded instant ticket went on sale in May, featuring thousands of prizes from $10 to $20,000 and eight $100,000 top prizes. As of Sept. 29, there are three unclaimed $100,000 top prizes remaining, along with four more $20,000 prizes.

The winning ticket was sold at the Wise Avenue BP located at 7801 Wise Avenue in Dundalk.

CCBC Essex Beats CCBC Catonsville in Mens Soccer

Article by Isaac Donsky of CCBC Essex-

CCBC Essex Knights men’s soccer improved to 4-0 in Region 20 Division II play on Saturday after taken down the rival CCBC Catonsville 7-0 at Joseph P. Murray Stadium.

Essex is now 5-0 against the Cardinals over the last three seasons.

In a rematch of last season’s NJCAA Division II Region 20 Championship, the Knights (7-1) scored five goals in the final 15 minutes.

Catonsville (5-3-1) kept the game close through the first 75 minutes, trailing only 2-0 at the half thanks to a strong defensive effort.

The Knights (7-1) struck first in the 15th minute when freshman midfielder Kazuma Ishizuka  slipped past two Cardinal defenders and fired a deep shot that sailed into the net.

Down 1-0, the Cardinals had a chance to equalize immediately in the 17th minute, but freshman midfielder Williams Yami’s shot bounced off the crossbar.

Catonsville got another chance in the 24th minute when awarded a penalty kick.

Cardinals freshman forward Christian Angel’s shot was stopped by a diving save from Knights sophomore goalkeeper Brendan LeMaster.

LeMaster finished the game with three saves, on the way to his fifth shutout of the season.

The Cardinals would continue to aggressively attack throughout the first half, with several opportunities to score emerging in the 35th and 36th minutes.

In both cases, it was Yami taking the shots, but LeMaster denied him both times.

The score remained 1-0 entering the half, as both teams had performed admirably on defense.

This defensive play continued at the start of the second half, with neither team adding any goals until the 61st minute.

Essex sophomore forward Sam Diaz sent a pass from freshman forward Michael Adekanmbi  off the crossbar into the back of the goal, increasing the Knights lead to 2-0.

The game remained close until about 15 minutes remaining in regulation when Essex exploded for five goals in rapid succession.

Ishizuka added his second goal of the game off a deflection by the Cardinals in the 74th minute, then fired a pass that freshman forward Henry Ortiz buried in the back of the net one-minute later to make it 4-0.

Catonsville would attempt to respond in the 79th minute when sophomore forward Mike Vasquez broke loose from his defender, but his shot sailed over the net.

The Knights added three more goals in the final five minutes, with Adekanmbi, sophomore midfielder Toyosi Osemobor and freshman forward Noe Kabre (Perry Hall High School) each scoring to make the final tally 7-0.

Next up for the Knights is another road match, tomorrow against College of Southern Maryland. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
