BCPS to Honor Officer Caprio With Playground


Fallen Officer Amy Caprio will be honored with a playground at Gunpowder Elementary School on Saturday, October 23, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the school, 9540 Holiday Manor Road in Perry Hall.

A host of county and state elected and educational leaders, including BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, will participate in the ribbon-cutting for a new Unity Playground to honor the life and service of Ofc. Amy Caprio, who was killed in the line of duty in Perry Hall in May 2018.

The ceremony will include remarks from Williams and Olszewski as well as from Makeda Scott, chair of the Board of Education of Baltimore County; state Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, Police Chief Melissa Hyatt, Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, and family members and friends of Officer Caprio’s.

The event also will feature the Perry Hall High School Chamber Choir and a medley from Police Emerald Society piper Lt. Robert McCurdy (ret.) of the Baltimore County Fire Department. The community is invited, and children will be invited to engage in a “First Play” on the equipment to end the ceremony.

The rain date for this event is Saturday, October 30.

Police Investigating Fatal Shooting in Hawthorne


Baltimore County homicide detectives are investigating an Essex fatal shooting that occurred on Oct. 16, just before 1:30 p.m.

Officers responded to the area of Midthorn Road and Whitethorn Way in Hawthorne for a report of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Dimarco Johnson suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

Medics transported Johnson to a local hospital where he later died. Although this may have been a targeted attack, the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation. No one has been charged in connection to this case.

Police Investigating Double Murder in Rosedale


Baltimore County Police are investigating a double murder that occurred in Rosedale.

Officers from the White Marsh precinct responded to the 7400 block of Plainview Road to investigate a shooting on Monday, Oct. 11 at 9:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males inside the location suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

55 year-old Christopher Walker and his son, 24 year-old Justin Walker were both pronounced deceased on scene.

Man Charged with Child Abuse and Rape

Police said daycare center located in Perry Hall area


Baltimore County detectives have charged 54-year-old Edward Biedenkapp with child abuse and rape after a child came forward alleging abuse.

Court records listed Biedenkapp with a Baltimore City address.

Based on information gathered by members of the Baltimore County Crimes Against Children Unit, detectives have reason to believe more children may have been abused between the time span of 2007 and 2011.

It’s worth noting, children would have referred to Biedenkapp as “Mr. Eddie.” Biedenkapp’s wife ran Biedenkapp Daycare at the time in the Perry Hall area.

Victim Dies from Shooting in Parkville


Baltimore County homicide detectives have identified the person fatally shot early Tuesday evening, as 56-year-old Mark Russell, of the 2900 block of Topaz Road in Parkville.

The incident occurred outside a Baltimore County business located in the 7700 block of Harford Rd. Investigators are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The release of the victim’s identity was pending notification of next of kin.

Police Investigating Parkville Shooting


Baltimore County Police continues to investigate a shooting in the 7700 block of Harford Road in Parkville.

The shooting was reported Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 5:28 p.m.

Medics took one person to a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

Baltimore County Police released new information on Wednesday that the shooting occurred outside a Baltimore County business on Harford Road

This remains an open and active investigation as interviews are ongoing.

Juvenile Arrested for Gun at Chesapeake HS

Loaded Gun Found in Chesapeake High Classroom


Baltimore County Police responded to Chesapeake High School in Essex after they were notified that a loaded handgun and ammunition were discovered by a school administrator on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 12:15 p.m.

Officers later learned the weapon was located inside a bag in an empty classroom.

Police made an arrest in this case.

Overlea Shooting Reported on Raspe Avenue


Detectives with the Baltimore County Violent Crimes Unit continue to investigate a shooting that occurred Wednesday. Shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 4600 block of Raspe Avenue in Overlea.

The victims told police two suspects approached them and fired shots. The suspects then fled the scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. One victim has been treated and released.

As this investigation continues, VCU detectives are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Raspe Avenue Wednesday evening to contact them by calling 410-307-2020.

Zavala Named Dundalk Officer of the Month


Baltimore County Police announced that Officer Zavala was been named Officer of the Month for the Dundalk Precinct 12 in August.

According to the report, Officer Zavala had one felony case clear, six misdemeanor case clearances and one misdemeanor arrest. She assisted a family who was the target of a bias incident by thoroughly investigation, charging and arresting the suspect responsible.

“Officer Zavala is bilingual and has been an asset to the department and community,” said a statement from Baltimore County Police.
