Police continue to investigate a fatal crash on MD 702 in Essex that occurred just before 9 p.m. Saturday night.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Hyundai Tucson traveling westbound on MD 702 near the exit to I-695 failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, crossing the grass median and the eastbound travel lanes, then traveling down an embankment where it struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Shannon Michele Kraft (30) of the 3700 block of White Pine Road, 21220, was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she later died. An adult male passenger was also transported to an area hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.
The Baltimore County Police Crash Team responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation.
