Third Meeting Set for New Northeast Elementary School


Members of the BCPS community are invited to attend the third meeting of the Northeast Area Elementary Boundary Study Committee on Wednesday, October 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting will be held online.

This committee is in charge of creating attendance boundaries for the new northeast elementary school and a new, larger Red House Run Elementary School.

This committee was formed last spring to make plans for the new 700-seat school currently under construction along Rossville Boulevard near Gum Spring and Ridge roads. The school is scheduled to open in August 2022.

In addition, Red House Run Elementary School is also being expanded, which will impact attendance lines in many of the same northeastern communities affected by the new elementary school.

With the new Red House Run Elementary scheduled to open in August 2023, both schools will relieve overcrowding at other schools in the northeast. Eight elementary schools have been identified as being part of the committee’s study: Elmwood, Fullerton, Joppa View, McCormick, Perry Hall, Red House Run, Shady Spring and Vincent Farm elementary schools.

In addition to six committee meetings, where members will consider boundary options to accommodate the new school construction as well as all other participating schools, the public also is invited to a virtual public information session scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 7-8 p.m.

Members of the public may learn about the boundary process and participate through an online survey (to be available Nov. 3 – 17) conducted to gather feedback from the community on draft boundary line options.

Following the meetings and public information session, a recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education for a decision in March 2022. Fire Reported at Parkville McDonald’s

The Baltimore County Fire Department was on the scene of a fire in the 2100 block of Joppa Road in Parkville.

Heavy smoke was seen from the building around 8:37 a.m. on Sunday, Oct.10.

It was reported by the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman’s Association that the McDonald’s was the building on fire.

The fire was contained around 9 a.m. and there were no reports of injury.

Essex Shooting Reported on Delaware Ave


Baltimore County detectives continue to investigate a shooting that happened in Essex on Oct. 7 around 9:15 p.m.

The incident occurred in the 600 block of Delaware Avenue. When officers arrived they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Medics transported the victim to a local hospital.

Detectives with the Baltimore County Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit request anyone with information to contact 410-307-2020.

Ebenezer Rd. to Close at High School at 4:15 Friday


Baltimore County Government announced that a portion of Ebenezer Road in Perry Hall will be closed from Perry Hall Middle School to Perry Hall High School on Friday, Oct. 8 between approximately 4:15 and 4:45 p.m.

The road closure is for the annual Perry Hall High School Homecoming Parade.

Baltimore County Public Schools said this closure may impact buses.

Please anticipate delays on Friday.

COVID Vaccine Needed for BCPS Athletes


Beginning Wednesday, November 24, 2021, BCPS will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for any high school student participating in BCPS winter and spring sports for the 2021-22 school year. 

Students who are unwilling to be vaccinated, or present documentation verifying a medical or religious exemption as to why they cannot be vaccinated, may participate in mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing. 

Testing will be offered at no cost to the student athlete at their school on a regularly scheduled basis that is either during the school day or practice time. Tests involve a brief self-swab inside the tip of the nose and use PCR technology to detect the COVID virus.

If a student fails to get vaccinated or participate in the mandatory weekly COVID testing process, they will lose their eligibility and be unable to participate or until the requirements are met

Fire Reported on Philadelphia Road

Crews are on scene of 2nd alarm building fire in the 7300 block of Philadelphia Road in Rosedale around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Heavy fire conditions has been reported at the zcene. There are no reports of any injuries at this time.

Country Club Bowling Lanes Has Closed


AMF Country Club Lanes has closed its door. The bowling alley was located at 9020 Pulaski Hwy in Middle River.

The windows have been boarded up and there was an announcement on the AMF website.

“We’re sorry to say that AMF Country Club Lanes has permanently closed. We would like to invite you to keep bowling with us at AMF Perry Hall Lanes,” said a statement on the AMF site.

Pinland Bowling in Dundalk closed in the spring and Edgemere Bowling lanes closed back in 2012. Both of those bowling alleys were duckpin lanes and privately owned.

Country Club Lanes only had traditional tenpin lanes and was owned by corporate giant AMF.

Parkville-Perry Hall to be Featured by Ravens


The Baltimore Sun has closed it poll and it appears that Parkville at Perry Hall has been selected as part of the Ravens RISE High School Football Showdown game for Friday, Oct. 22 for Baltimore County.

According to the Sun, Parkville-Perry Hall edged out Sparrows Point-Lansdowne by more than 2,000 votes.

Both schools are set to receive $1,500 each from the Baltimore Ravens and the game will have appearance from Raven mascot, cheerleaders and the Marching Ravens Band.
