Last Day for New Northeast Elementary Survey


The public has one more day to select from among two options for new boundary lines for elementary schools in northeastern Baltimore County. The deadline for taking the survey here is midnight today, Wednesday, Nov 17.

Survey results are part of the feedback that will be used by the Northeast Area Elementary Boundary Study Committee to choose an option and formulate a recommendation for new attendance boundaries.

The goal of the new boundaries is to relieve overcrowding through additional seats at a new northeast elementary school currently under construction at Rossville Boulevard and Gum Spring Road and a replacement building for Red House Run Elementary School.

The two options were developed by the committee, which has been meeting since September, and shared at a public information session on Nov. 3. The committee’s recommendation will go to BCPS leadership and finally to the Board of Education for action in March 2022.

Police Arrest 8 Members of Violent Outlaw Motorcycle Gang


The Baltimore County Police Department recently concluded a month-long investigation into members of a violent Outlaw Motorcycle Gang operating in the Baltimore Metropolitan Region. Police arrested eight members of the organization for violent crimes and other felony charges. Police seized twelve firearms including three “ghost guns” related to the case. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Prince George’s County Police Department supported this operation.

The Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN), which focuses on criminal networks that impact multiple jurisdictions, funded the investigation. “The Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network is an example of the continued collaboration with our law enforcement partners throughout the State of Maryland,” said Police Chief Melissa Hyatt. “I applaud the members of the Baltimore County Police Department along with our law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to remove these dangerous individuals from the community.”

Heritage Society to Hold Essex Tree Lighting

The Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River, Inc. will host the Essex Tree Lighting and Open House at 516 Eastern Blvd. in Essex on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Two Pedestrians Struck on I-95 in White Marsh

A pedestrian crash shutdown I-95 South before White Marsh on Monday evening.

The White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company reported that two of its engines responded to southbound I-95 just below New Forge Road in White Marsh for two pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle.

This is around mile marker 69.3 between New Forge Road and White Marsh Boulevard.

A medevac from Maryland State Police has transported one of the two patients to a trauma center.

The accident was reported on Nov. 15 around 4 p.m.

CCBC Essex Men’s Soccer Advances in Playoff

CCBC Essex Men’s Soccer advances to the next round of the NJCAA Division II Men’s Soccer tournament after defeating Heartland Community College of Illinois 1 to 0 in Wichita, Kan.

The Knight won after Ethan Stewart scored a goal in the 86th minute. Andy Portillo had the assist.

CCBC Essex will next play against Carl Sandburg College in the Round of Eight Wednesday at noon.

Last Week’s Lottery Winners from Dundalk, Essex & Nottingham


Six people in Maryland, including Dundalk and Nottingham, won prizes of $50,000 from the Maryland Lottery last week. There was also a winnerfrom a store in Essex.

In all, 22 players across the state won or claimed prizes of $10,000 or more, and the Lottery paid more than $30.8 million in prizes in the seven days ending Nov. 14.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes of up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. BCPS Alerts Parents of Bus “Call Outs”


Baltimore County Public Schools sent out an email over the weekend to alert parents of possible “call outs” by BCPS bus drivers and attendants this week.

“We have learned that some Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) bus drivers and bus attendants may organize a ‘call out’ that will impact school bus service next week,” said the email.

“We want to make you aware of the possibility of disruption to transportation services for BCPS students so you are prepared to provide a different form of transportation for your child if there are any interruptions or delays.”

BCPS advises car riders to arrive at schools earlier as drop offs could see longer lines if there is a disruption with bus service.

BCPS and Baltimore County Government announced a plan last week to help hire additional bus drivers.

Dundalk Advances to Football State Quarterfinals

Kenwood, Parkville, Sparrows Point & Perry Hall’s Seasons End

The Dundalk Owls are in the football state quarterfinals as they defeated Kenwood 35 to 0 last night. The Owls were only up 7-0 at halftime. Then Dundalk took control of Kenwood in the second half.

According to Dundalk HS Athletics Twitter page, Owl Quarterback Calvin Stokes had a touchdown run and threw a touchdown to Antonio Brown. Running back Jordan Fiorenza also had a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Dundalk football released a statement after the game.

“Final here at the nest! Hard fought win. Respect to a hard nosed Kenwood team,” said the team statement

Dundalk will now play next week in the 4A/3A quarterfinals. Their opponent has not been announced as MPSSAA does reseeding for the quarterfinals. It does appear that Dundalk should be ranked high enough to receive another home game for next week.

The Owls are the only local football team to advance as four other area schools has their seasons ended last night.

In addition to Kenwood losing, Parkville lost at Broadneck 45 to 0. Perry Hall lost to Mervo 42 to 3. Sparrows Point dream season came to an end as the Pointers lost 38 to 30 against Largo.

Serious Bus Accident Reported in Sparrows Point

Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters Association have reported a serious accident involving a MTA bus and multiple vehicles in Sparrows Point. The accident was reported at the intersection of I-695 and Bethlehem Boulevard on Friday after 6:30 p.m. Multiple EMS crews were on the scene.

One person was trapped and several people are reported injured.

Baltimore County Fire Department reported that two vehicles were involved in crash with a bus.

There are a total of 13 patients. Two had serious injuries and five had minor injuries. Six patients refused to be transported. Fire Units cleared the scene at 8:14 p.m. Accident investigation still on going.

It was not clear if the accident was either on the Beltway or off the Beltway on Bethlehem Boulevard.

Parkville Retiree Wins $50,000 from Lottery

A 67-year-old Parkville retiree from Johns Hopkins Hospital is now $50,000 richer from the Maryland Lottery.

“Midnight,” which is the nickname the anonymous winner selected for publicity, says she’s “living the dream.” She retired in February and then, on Nov. 5, found out she won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5 for the first time.

On Nov. 5, “Midnight” was doing what she normally does since retiring. She was out, enjoying the day, stress free with no worries. On a whim, she stopped in Cork & Bottle located at 4305 Ridge Road in Mt. Airy and purchased a $6 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket.

“I’ve played Pick 3 in the past, but I’ve never played Bonus Match 5,” she said. “I just had a hunch that I should try it.”

The mother of three sons purchased her ticket and went on about her lovely day. Later, she gave the ticket to one of her sons for safe keeping while she went out of town for the weekend. Her son, who accompanied her to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters, said he scanned the ticket on the Lottery App on his phone after the evening drawing and was blown away at what he saw.

He had to scan the ticket five or six times just to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.

“I texted her the picture of the message on my phone and called her,” said the son. “I said, ‘Ma, you have a winning ticket, look at your phone!’”

“Midnight” said she looked at her phone that night in shock. “It’s funny, I was just telling my son we were going to win.”

The lucky player stayed calm and enjoyed her weekend. She came home on Sunday and stopped at her son’s house to retrieve her lucky ticket. “Midnight” told Lottery officials that she is engaged and will use some of the winnings toward a small, intimate wedding. She also plans to take a vacation and will save the rest of her windfall.

The store that sold her the lucky ticket, Cork & Bottle, earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning ticket in the game. The Lottery has sold 40 top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 tickets so far in 2021.
