The Dundalk Owls have advanced to the state semifinals in the 4A/3A region after rallying back to defeat Urbana 20 to 15.

According to the Dundalk HS Athletics Twitter page, the Owls were trailing 15 to 0 with 6:52 left in the third quarter as Urbana scored on two long touchdown passes.

Dundalk got back into the game as the defense recovered a fumble at the Urbana 43 yard-line that set up the Owl’s first touchdown of the game.

Dundalk was able to get another touchdown in the game but still trailed 15 to 14 after they failed to convert the 2-point conversion.

Marcus Nicholson helped Dundalk take control of the game as he scored the Go-Ahead touchdown as he caught a 45-yard touchdown catch on 4th & 5 with 3:21 left in the fourth.

The Owls sealed the victory when their defense stopped Urbana on fourth down with 1:20 left in the game.

The team remains undefeated and is one win away from their first state title game since 2015.

According to MPSSAA website, Dundalk is set to play Arundel next Friday night and that game should be played at Dundalk High at 7 p.m.

Marks Gives Construction Update on Joppa Road Bridge

Councilman David Marks provided an update on the Joppa Road bridge near Honeygo Boulevard in Perry Hall that has been under construction since January. His statement is below:

“The county’s forces remobilized on the site earlier this month and have been making good progress. The precast concrete slabs have been installed and the cast-in-place concrete traffic barriers are now being constructed (see the attached photo).

“The next steps include reinforcing the steel set, pouring concrete, and final strengthening of the interior barriers. Once that occurs, the roadway will be paved and traffic barriers off the bridge will be installed.

“We anticipate it will take about two more weeks to complete the work, unless there are unforeseen material supply issues and weather delays,” Marks said.

“I have done all I can to push this project along. The delays have been driven by material shortages, and these are impacted by national economic trends. I appreciate the patience of all motorists, as well as neighbors who have been impacted by detours.”

BCPS East Zone Artwork is now on Display

An exhibition of artwork by students in Baltimore County Public Schools’ East Zone is on display online and in the Superintendent’s Gallery at the school system’s Greenwood headquarters in Towson.

The virtual exhibition consists of more than 120 student artworks from 38 East Zone schools, from students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Twenty-one selected artworks from 16 schools are on display until January 2022 in the Superintendent’s Gallery.

“This is the first student art exhibition in the Superintendent’s Gallery this school year,” said Ryan Twentey, BCPS visual arts coordinator.

“It will be followed by Central and West Zone exhibitions in January and March, respectively. The artworks in this exhibition were completed by students since the start of the 2021-22 school year, and they reflect our students’ creativity, opportunities for personal expression, and eagerness to make artwork with their peers. The power of art continues to carry us through challenging times, and we are so proud of our students for engaging with the creative process to create their masterpieces.”

The Superintendent’s Gallery, opened in April 2021, builds on the long history of student artwork exhibitions at the Greenwood Administration Building, which is located at 6901 N. Charles Street in Towson.

The AVENUE at White Marsh announced in October that it is going to alter its Holiday Tree Lighting and there was some concern that the parade was in danger of being canceled again, but the good news was revealed on its social media page.

“We are happy to share that our permit has been approved and we will host this community tradition on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.,” said a statement.

“Join us as we celebrate the season with local high school marching bands, street performers, mascots, dance troops and so much more – all leading up to the big guy in the red suit!”

Last Day for New Northeast Elementary Survey

The public has one more day to select from among two options for new boundary lines for elementary schools in northeastern Baltimore County. The deadline for taking the survey here is midnight today, Wednesday, Nov 17.

Survey results are part of the feedback that will be used by the Northeast Area Elementary Boundary Study Committee to choose an option and formulate a recommendation for new attendance boundaries.

The goal of the new boundaries is to relieve overcrowding through additional seats at a new northeast elementary school currently under construction at Rossville Boulevard and Gum Spring Road and a replacement building for Red House Run Elementary School.

The two options were developed by the committee, which has been meeting since September, and shared at a public information session on Nov. 3. The committee’s recommendation will go to BCPS leadership and finally to the Board of Education for action in March 2022.
